Patagonian Mara
Dolichotis patagonum
Why the patagonian mara?
A large, long-legged rodent that looks strikingly like a cross between a hare and a small antelope. It measures about 60-80 cm in body length with a very short tail, weighs roughly 8-16 kg, and has a greyish-brown back, a paler belly, long ears, and big eyes. Despite its deer-like appearance, it is a rodent and the second-largest member of the cavy family, related to the guinea pig.
An excellent runner, the Patagonian mara can reach speeds of up to 45 km/h and moves with a curious bounding, stotting gait, leaping as far as 2 metres in a single jump.
How adoption works
- 1Choose a tier and pay online by card.
- 2You'll receive a confirmation by e-mail and the adoption certificate within 14 days.

- 4For the Patron and Benefactor tiers we'll arrange a visit and experiences with you.
The adoption is symbolic — the animal stays in the care of the zoo. It also makes a great gift: in the note at checkout, tell us who the certificate should be made out to. More information at info@zoosedlec.cz.
