Spectacled owl
- Description
- They grow to approximately 46 cm and weigh approximately 850 g. They have very distinctive coloration, being mostly black-brown with a yellow-brown belly and a striking white pattern on their face that looks strikingly like spectacles.
- Habitat
- Throughout the year, they mainly inhabit old forest stands in Central and South America, ranging from southern Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago to southern Brazil, Paraguay, and northwestern Argentina.
- Diet
- They feed mainly on rodents, small birds, amphibians, and mammals.
- Reproduction
- They lay two eggs, which they brood for 35 days.
- Did you know?
- The males call out with a peculiar voice that resembles the tapping of a hammer on a dry branch. The voice of the female is a shrill scream.
